East African Power Pool

A number of countries comprising the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) regional economic bloc agreed in 2005 to create a regional power market dubbed the East African Power Pool (EAPP). Currently, in its preliminary stage, the EAPP envisages the evolution of a fully integrated and operational power market in a period of about 30 years from inception. This publication discusses the critical success factors that must be addressed if the aspiration of a fully integrated and operational power market in the East African region is to be translated into reality.
